JESENICE

Jesenice is located in a narrow valley between the Karavanke Mountains in the north and Mežakla in the south. The city developed in close association with ironwork and depended on it until 1990.

If we take a walk around the city, we can see:

  • the iron foundry and residential settlement Stara Sava (Bucelleni - Ruard's Manor, Church of The Assumption, working-class residential building called Barracks, remains and the refurbished blast furnace chimney and mill)
  • grammar school,
  • theatre and the square in front of it,
  • Kos manor, which belongs to a set of four castles built in the 16th and 17th centuries by the owners of ironworks,
  • the famous restaurant Ejga,
  • memorial park, which stands in the former cemetery. It contains the burial ground of fighters from World War II, Russian prisoners of war who built the Caravan Tunnel and chapel with the names of fallen fighters during The First World War.
Jesenice is also known for its successful hockey club Acroni Jesenice.

CYCLING

There are quite a few cycling trails in our area - designed as circular tours and for different difficulty levels: starting with family-paced rides, to recreational and finally the most more demanding mountain biking difficulty levels. Each trip is diverse in its own way, interesting for their panoramic views and landmarks along the way, as well as offering catered rest areas.
